"Tegeta Green Planet" awarded the participants of the "National Debate Tournament".

The final event of the "Debate for Better Education" project was held at the Biltmore Hotel. The best speakers of the "National Debate Tournament" were awarded at the ceremony. The main subject of the 2024 tournament, organized by the Institute of Debate and Education, was environmental protection and the fight against climate change. The tournament, which was held on the environmental subject with the support of Tegeta Green Planet and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), attracted more than 400 participants nationwide. The best debaters were awarded special gifts from Tegeta Green Planet.

Shalva Akhvlediani, Director of Tegeta Green Planet: For Tegeta Green Planet, whose main concern is environmental protection, cooperating with the Debate Institute and supporting the national tournament was a very important step. The goal for which we supported this project, I think, has been achieved - more than 400 young people raised awareness and got information about the importance of waste management. We believe that in the future they themselves will become change leaders in terms of adopting more environmentally friendly practices. As part of the project, we shared with the students information about our activities and how important it is to properly manage, handle and recycle specific waste. This project proved to be one of the best ways for them to gain in-depth knowledge on environmental topics."

Preparation for the "National Debate Tournament" lasted 5 months, with more than 400 students from 30 schools across Georgia participating. The preparation included the following activities: training students from each club in debate techniques, recruiting debate teams; and meetings with experts on environmental topics. The debaters also met with Tegeta representatives, EU-4 UNDP/UNDP national leaders on climate change, etc.

Students selected from regional debate clubs participated in regional tournaments. Selected from them, the best participants have already competed in the national tournament on June 23. Using debate techniques, they discussed problems related to the topic and shared their knowledge and experience.

Tinatin Tsertsvadze, chairperson of the Georgian Institute of Debate and Education (GIDE): "All the skills that debate technique develops are vital for a person interested in any field. It is doubly gratifying for us that along with mastering these techniques, debate clubs across Georgia, with the support of Tegeta Green Planet, have had the opportunity to learn about, deeply explore, and discuss environmental issues. As a result, they were able to debate freely on all fronts, be it recycling, climate change, Georgia's positioning in this regard, or anything else."

For information, the large-scale tournament was held within the framework of the "Debate for Better Education" project, which has been implemented for several years with the support of the "Gudavadze-Patarkatsishvili Foundation" and its goal is to create debate clubs in schools and develop knowledge and skills necessary for reasoned discourse among young people.

"Tegeta Green Planet" is an organization that is part of "Tegeta Holding". "Tegeta Green Planet" has been in operation since 2022. The company was one of the first in Georgia to receive permission from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture under the extended producer responsibility for the management of waste tires, oil and batteries. At the first stage, the organization collects, transports and recycles the above-mentioned specific waste according to regulations, and then manages it in accordance with circular economy rules.
