Environmental initiatives have become an important part of economic and social development in the modern world. Sustainable development is no longer just an idea, but a real process that creates new opportunities and links environmental concerns with economic benefits.
Against the backdrop of this global transformation, Tegeta Green Planet, an extended producer responsibility (EPR) organization that is part of Tegeta Holding, gave a presentation at one of the most prestigious international conferences, RAR2025 in Lisbon, where issues of the circular economy and sustainable development were discussed. Particular attention was paid to the issue of mixing rubber obtained from tire recycling into asphalt. During the conference, manufacturers and scientists invited from around the world discussed this issue and presented both their innovative approaches and the latest research in the field of using rubber-modified asphalt and its advantages.
At the event, the CEO of Tegeta Green Planet gave a presentation on “Circular Industry in Action.” Shalva Akhvlediani's presentation also attracted the attention of the international media, with articles published in
The CEO Weekly and
The Hudson Weekly.
Shalva Akhvlediani, CEO of Tegeta Green Planet: "Tegeta Green Planet's participation in RAR2025 is an important step in the development of both the country and the company. This event promotes the inclusion of tire waste in Georgia's circular economy through modern and innovative approaches. In particular, adding recycled rubber to asphalt significantly improves the quality and properties of road surfaces. In addition, it almost doubles its durability.
Furthermore, participation in the forum was particularly important for the company, as RAR2025 is an international platform for the circular economy and sustainable infrastructure that brings together the experience and best practices of leading countries.
The event showcased Georgia's practical achievements in waste management, innovative approaches, and processes demonstrating how private sector and government cooperation can create a sustainable, efficient, and functional economic model”.
Used tires are considered one of the most difficult types of waste to manage in the world. Their uncontrolled accumulation or illegal burning causes significant damage to the ecosystem. However, thanks to the participation of Tegeta Green Planet, Wasteless, and other large extended producer responsibility (EPR) organizations, this problem has turned into an opportunity for Georgia – a new economic direction has been created in the form of a historic project—Georgia's first industrial tire recycling plant, which will be commissioned in the third quarter of 2026.
The plant will be equipped with the latest European technology and will be able to process thousands of tons of tires per year. The resulting materials – steel, textiles, and rubber granulate – will be used in road construction, sports fields and grounds, and industrial production.
"We decided to give the history of tires a new ending. Where there used to be waste, there are now opportunities. Every tire we recycle means preventing pollution and creating new value at the same time. For those present in Lisbon, this initiative has become an example of how the private sector and the state can jointly create a functional model of a circular economy," notes Shalva Akhvlediani.
Raising environmental awareness is an integral part of Tegeta Green Planet's activities. Today, the company represents a sustainable development business model that combines innovation, technology, and a responsible approach.
At the conference, Tegeta Green Planet clearly demonstrated that Georgia not only follows global standards but also creates its own model of sustainable development. The company's initiatives and innovative approaches enable the country to make a significant breakthrough in the circular economy and create new opportunities.
Tegeta Green Planet is a non-profit organization affiliated with Tegeta Holding, which was established to promote the management of specific types of waste and the implementation of circular economy principles in the automotive industry. The company collects, transports, and recycles specific types of waste, such as tires, oils, and batteries. From 2023 to the present day, with the participation of Tegeta Green Planet, more than 4,000 tons of used batteries, up to 2,000 tons of waste oil, and more than 10,000 tons of tires have been collected and recycled in accordance with the rules of the circular economy.
