Shalva Akhvlediani, Director of Tegeta Green Planet, was a speaker at the 4th IRF Europe & Central Asia Regional Congress & Exhibition, organized by the International Road Federation (IRF Global).
The main theme of the Congress was “Connecting Europe and Central Asia: Sustainable, Smart and Safe Roads for Sustainable Economic Growth.” The three-day event brought together experts with international and regional experience, representatives of the public and private sectors, and researchers to discuss current issues related to the development of road infrastructure.
Shalva Akhvlediani participated in the session “Sustainable Road Infrastructure: Climate Risks, Emissions and Long-Term Efficiency,” which focused on ways to strengthen the resilience and sustainability of road infrastructure throughout its entire lifecycle — from planning and design to construction, maintenance and renewal.
Key topics discussed during the session included climate change adaptation, the use of low-carbon materials, circular economy approaches, environmental efficiency, and the implementation of solutions that ensure the long-term and sustainable performance of road infrastructure.
As part of the international discussion, Shalva Akhvlediani presented Tegeta Green Planet’s experience and perspective. The company’s activities are directly aligned with the principles of the circular economy — transforming waste into resources, promoting responsible waste management, and developing approaches that connect environmental goals with economic and infrastructure needs.
As an organization operating in the field of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Tegeta Green Planet plays an important role in the collection and management of various types of specific waste in Georgia, including used tires, waste oils and automotive batteries. The practical experience accumulated in this field is one example of how circular economy principles can be integrated into real-world business and infrastructure solutions.
The discussions at the Congress also focused on sharing international experience and identifying practical approaches that can strengthen infrastructure resilience, environmental efficiency and long-term durability.
