Tegeta Green Planet Director Shalva Akhvlediani Speaks at the Circular Economy and Sustainable Business Models Course

On September 17, Shalva Akhvlediani, Director of Tegeta Green Planet, participated in the “Circular Economy and Sustainable Business Models” course organized by the UN Global Compact Network Georgia, where he shared Tegeta Green Planet’s experience in circular economy and sustainable business models with the participants.

Tegeta Green Planet is Tegeta Holding’s environmental company and an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) organization working in Georgia on the collection and recycling of specific waste, including used tires, waste oils, and automotive batteries. The organization’s activities are based on circular economy principles and aim to promote proper waste management, transform waste into resources, and reduce environmental impact.

On September 16–17, the UN Global Compact Network Georgia held a 10-hour training course. The course aimed to provide businesses with practical knowledge about circular economy principles and sustainable business models.

During the course, participants discussed the key principles of the circular economy, opportunities for integrating them into business activities, modern approaches to waste management, circular business models, and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of products and materials.

The sessions covering the main topics of the course were led by Giorgi Berechikidze, Environmental Manager at the UN Global Compact Network Georgia, who introduced participants to practical approaches in the fields of circular economy, waste management, and LCA.

To share international experience, the course also featured online contributions from Anders Ladefoged, a member of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and a representative of the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform (ECESP), who spoke about European standards for the circular economy, and Dr. Silke Megelski, an advisor on circular economy issues at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), who introduced participants to the Circular City Lab approach and the experience of piloting deposit return systems in Georgia.

Tegeta Green Planet’s activities are closely linked to the practical implementation of circular economy principles and the development of specific waste management. The organization works on organizing waste collection, transportation, and subsequent treatment processes, helping return used materials to the resource cycle and enabling their reuse.

The two-day course concluded with the presentation of certificates to the participants. Educational programs of this kind contribute to sharing practical knowledge and experience with businesses and support the development of resource-efficient, sustainable, and circular business models.
