Batumi Hosted the Circular Business Summit 2026

To support Georgia’s transition to a circular economy, Batumi hosted the Circular Business Summit 2026. The event was organized by CENN with funding from the European Union and symbolically brought together around 100 participants from more than 60 organizations on June 5, World Environment Day. The summit was attended by representatives of international organizations, businesses and industries, financial institutions, sectoral civil society organizations, educational institutions, and independent experts.

Tegeta Green Planet also participated in the summit. During a panel discussion, the organization’s Director, Shalva Akhvlediani, spoke about the implementation of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system in Georgia, its current challenges, and future development opportunities. He highlighted the important role of Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs) in establishing an effective waste management system, developing recycling infrastructure, and strengthening environmental responsibility within the business sector.

Tegeta Green Planet is one of the first authorized PROs in Georgia, working to develop collection and management systems for used tires, waste oils, and batteries. The organization actively promotes both practical waste management mechanisms and public awareness initiatives while encouraging the adoption of circular economy principles. In his speech, Shalva Akhvlediani also emphasized that the transition to a circular economy requires joint efforts from the government, businesses, and society, while the full implementation of the EPR system will contribute to environmental protection and sustainable economic development.

The main objective of the event was to discuss the key challenges and opportunities of Georgia’s circular transition and to promote the development of a low-carbon and sustainable economy. As part of the summit, 23 green businesses and enterprises showcased their initiatives and circular solutions at a business exhibition, providing attendees with an opportunity to learn about innovative practices implemented by small and medium-sized enterprises.

The summit program included presentations by international and national experts, interactive sessions, and four panel discussions. Participants explored various aspects of the circular economy, recent approaches, and sector-specific challenges. Particular attention was paid to strategies and mechanisms that support waste reduction, efficient resource use, and the development of circular business models in Georgia.
